WASC Codes of Conduct

All club members are expected to comply with the following 'Code of Conduct' while taking part in any club activities. Above all, it is expected that all members of Wellingborough Amateur Swimming Club, coaches, volunteers, poolside officials and parents alike; when attending any training session, event or tournament will:

·         Behave without discrimination on the grounds of age, gender, race, religion, sexual identity, or disability as set out in the club's Equity statement

·         Respect the rights and dignity of each member of the club and all other competitors/swimmers

·         Treat other competitors and teams with respect in victory and defeat

·         Comply with the ASA codes, rules and laws.

·         Observe the authority and decisions of all officials

The following guidelines outline the responsibilities of swimmers, parents, club officials and volunteers.

Swimmers

·         Arrive at training and galas on time and be mentally and physically prepared to swim.

·         Leave the changing rooms clean and tidy.

·         Behaviour and personal conduct must be of a high standard at all times and should reflect favourably on our Club and sport.

·         Follow any instruction given by a Club Official, both on poolside and in the vicinity of the pool.

·         At galas swimmers should stay with the team at all times unless otherwise directed / agreed with the Coach or Team Manager.

·         The use of any drugs or substances other than for medical reasons is prohibited.

·         The use of mobile phones is strictly prohibited in the changing rooms and on poolside.

·         Know when your race is going to take place in a gala.  Cheer and support other Wellingborough swimmers in their events.

·         Act safely on poolside; no running or pushing is allowed.

·         Show respect to other swimmers; bullying both verbal and physical will not be tolerated in our club and will be dealt with as a serious offence.

·         Electronic games should not be used on poolside or in the changing rooms.

Parents

·         Ensure your child arrives at poolside in good time for the beginning of the training session. Missing part of the warm up is dangerous and causes inconvenience to other swimmers and the coach.

·         Be prompt to collect your child at the end of training or from a gala.  The Coach cannot take responsibility for your child if they are left waiting for their lift.

·         Show courtesy and consideration to the coach and lane helpers and encourage your child to do the same. Our poolside volunteers give their time and resources to help your child with little or no financial reward

·         If you have an urgent message, tell a Poolside Helper; do not call or try to talk to your child whilst they are on poolside.

·         If you feel there is a problem with your child’s swimming, please have a quiet chat with the Squad Coach.

·         Support the club by not condoning bad behaviour.  Let your child know you do not approve, and support the Coach in dealing with it.

·         Support official’s judgements and honesty at competitions, encouraging your child to show the same courtesy.  Speak to the Coach or Team Manager if you have a question about a decision.

·         The use of any type of photographic or imaging equipment is strictly prohibited without WASC and pool management registration on every occasion.

Club officials and volunteers

·         Consider the well-being and safety of participants before the development of performance.

·         Observe the authority and the decisions of all officials.

·         Encourage all swimmers to obey the spirit of the rules and laws both in and out of the pool.

·         Promote the positive aspects of the sport (e.g. fair play).

·         Treat other competitors and teams with respect, in victory and defeat.

·         Display consistently high standards of behaviour and appearance. As a role model, do not show evidence of tobacco or alcohol use.

·         Follow all guidelines laid down by the national governing body and the club.

·         Hold the appropriate, valid qualifications and insurance cover.

·         Never exert undue influence over performers to obtain personal benefit or reward.

·         Never condone rule violations, rough play or the use of prohibitive substances.

Treat all personal information about individual members as confidential expect in exceptional circumstances regarding health and safety, medical requirements, disciplinary action or in accordance with ASA Child Protection procedures and guidelines
