CHIEF COACH

 

Role

To coach swimmers and prepare for competition. To set goals for swimmers and coaches and give advice and support.  Make optimum use of resources.

 

Skills

  • The ability to deal effectively with conflict
  • The ability to motivate competitors
  • ASA Club Coach Certificate
  • First aid qualification would be beneficial
  • Good time management skills

 

Main Duties

  • Develop and update training programmes for squads and learners with the help of the Squad Coaches and Head Swimming Teacher
  • Allocate water time to the squads after consultation with the club committee
  • Allocate swimmers to the squads
  • Deliver the Club's coaching programme and support the teaching and coaching team
  • Encourage all coaches to obtain an appropriate ASA coaching certificate
  • Attend appropriate competitions
  • Ensure that training schedules are prepared for the squads
  • Attend to other duties associated with the role of club coach
  • Understand the swimming pools' EAP and NOP procedures
  • Follow and promote the ASA Child Protection policy

SQUAD COACH

Role

Training the Club's swimmers to improve their technique and performance

 

Skills

  • Sound technical knowledge
  • Motivated to help swimmers achieve their full potential

  • Well organised and efficient

 

Main Duties

  • Plan, organise and deliver appropriate coaching sessions for squad swimmers
  • Work with the Chief Coach to provide seamless progress for the swimmers through the club
  • Encourage swimmers to regularly take part in appropriate competition.
  • Adapt training to suit the requirements of swimmers with special needs
  • Abide by and promote all club policies
  • Be aware of and follow the injury reporting procedures
  • Provide support to assistant coaches
  • Be prepared to update qualifications as and when necessary
  • Be aware of and understand each facility's Emergency Action Plan and Normal Operating Procedure
  • Follow and promote the ASA child protection policy.

 

Commitment

Preparation of weekly training sessions.  Attendance at squad training and coaches' meetings.

LANE HELPER

Role

To pass on the coach's instructions to swimmers and control a small group.

 

Skills

  • Enthusiastic and reliable.
  • Confident and effective communicator
  • Understanding and impartial

 

Main Duties

  • Provide support for the coach at training sessions.
  • Pass on the coach's instructions
  • Monitor the performance and number of swimmers in the assigned lane.
  • Ensure swimmers behave in a safe manner for themselves and others
  • Alert the coach to any issues.
  • Follow and promote the ASA Child Protection policy
