OPEN MEETS – CAN YOU HELP?

Many thanks to Dave Williams who, for some years, has been organising our Open Meets.  Deepings will be the last meet Dave coordinates for us, and we are looking for a new Open Meet Coordinator.  If you are interested or want to know more, please see Dave, Sandra or Steve who will be happy to discuss it with you.  It is not a full time role, and most of the work can be done from home.  If you are interested but don’t like working alone – this role could be shared with a friend.

BAGS IN THE CHANGING ROOMS

Please remember that under no circumstances are you to leave anything in the changing room cubicles.  Not only are you likely to go back and find your belongings missing but your bag prevents anyone else using the cubicle.  Please ensure your belongings are either in a locker or in your bag on poolside.  Will those swimmers coming in on Monday night at 6.00 p.m. be particularly careful to remove their bags so that children in the lessons before 6.00 p.m. have somewhere to change.  Thank you for your help.

SUMMER HOLIDAY TRAININGS

The last training at Oundle will be Friday July 10th and the first Friday back after the school holidays will be Friday 11th September.

The last Wednesday training at Rushden will be 15th July and the first one back will be Wednesday 9th September.

Sundays at Rushden – the Performance and Midland squads will join the County Squad at Waendel Leisure Centre  from Sunday 26th July to Sunday 30th August inclusive.

Masters will continue to train at Rushden on Sundays 6 – 7 pm throughout this period.

LAND TRAINING

Next term starts Tuesday 8th September – forms available from the Swim Shop or our web site.  All swimmers 11 years to 18 years.

Term dates:  8th September to 13th October & 20th October (none on 27th October) to 1st December.

DO YOU WATCH YOUR SWIMMER AT GALAS?

The seats are always hard, the pool is hot, and sometimes it can seem like a long night.  Why not volunteer to help out?  There are so many things you can have a go at. You won’t be left on your own, you will be made welcome, the evening will fly and you still get to watch your child swim.

If “official” roles like Timekeeper are not your sort of thing, we struggle to find people to help with electronic timekeeping, serve drinks to the poolside officials, supervise our swimmers, take admission money and sell raffle tickets – can you do any of these?

We particularly need new parents to help at Junior Galas so parents whose children are no longer young enough to swim can have a night off!

The Club cannot function without our dedicated volunteers. In order to run a home gala we need over 20 people to fill the roles of Referees, Starter, Judges, Chief Timekeepers, Timekeepers, Recorders, Announcer, electronic timekeeping, serving drinks to the poolside officials, looking after our swimmers, taking admission money and selling raffle tickets.

If you are interested, have a look at our website Volunteers section (under "General") http://www.wasc.info/page/what_can_i_do/  for a better idea of what some of the roles include. Alternatively, use the Contact Form on the website, leaving your contact details so that Ally Bland, Volunteer coordinator can talk to you. If you prefer face to face contact ask for Tony Froggatt or Terri Guiry when you are at the pool on a Monday night. Or speak to Jean our Secretary or Sandra our Coach.

Raise funds every day!

Please use the search engine at http://wellingboroughasc.easysearch.org.uk and shop on line through http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/wellingboroughasc  and raise money for WASC.

Now there’s a thought!

A regional ASA email has the postscript “it's a good idea to begin at the bottom in everything, except in learning to swim!!”

BEWARE WATER!

So you swim every week and are a strong swimmer – but you do not swim in very cold water which can sap your energy very quickly.   If you are swimming in open water, make sure you never swim alone; you know what is in the water; and most important of all, make sure there is a way out if you get in.  Take great care in open water this summer.
