CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHIES

All trophies must be returned to the Club Room by Monday 2nd November, engraved and clean.  Thank you.

CHAMPIONSHIP RECORDS:

During the Club Championships held in 2008/09, some Championship Records were broken because of changes in the age groups. Unfortunately, we subsequently found that some of these age groups had been used during the late 1980’s and early 1990’s and the times from these old Championships had not been taken into consideration.  As a result of our investigations several of the new records are not valid.  The Championship Records have now been updated and the errors removed.

No one who received a Championship Record certificate will have their certificate withdrawn; however, their record will not show on the 2009/10 Championship programme.

We apologise for the error.

CHAMPIONSHIP PHOTOS

We are pleased to announce that DE Photo have again been appointed as Professional Sports Photographers for our Club Championships on Sunday 29th November.

Action photo prices range from £9 to £20 and can be purchased on the night.  See  http://www.dephoto.co.uk/options.html . Photographs are also available in frames and would make excellent Christmas presents.

Our WASC home photographer, Mary, will still take photos of the winners with their trophy and medals.  These photos will be displayed and available in the Club Room after the event in the normal way.

This competition, by its very nature, is in the public arena and when entering for the event the participant and their parents acknowledges this fact, which may result in the recording and publication of his/her image. All DE Photo photographers and staff have been CRB checked and the company operates a strict Child Protection Policy and Code of Ethics which can be viewed on their website at www.dephoto.co.uk/cpp.html

ASA AWARD WINNERS

Well done to Amy & Thomas who swam 3000m in just over an hour to raise £1000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital earlier this year and were presented with the ASA 2009 Swimtastic Fund Raising Award on Friday 16th October.  They were invited to 'Swim with the Stars' at a fun gala with members from Team GB and then attended a presentation dinner in the evening.

ITALY TRAINING CAMP 2009

At 5.30 a.m. 35 swimmers and 8 adults shivered their way onto the coach and set off for Heathrow.  Unfortunately due to industrial action in Italy our 11.05 a.m. flight became a 2.20 p.m. flight getting us to Venice late afternoon, in pouring rain.  It was dark by the time we reached Lignano and our accommodation.  We were too late for our training session in the pool and only just in time for our dinner.

Saturday morning, the sun came out (and stayed out for the rest of the week) and after breakfast we set off for the pool – 50m long and 8 lanes (we had just 4 lanes).  Lunch and an afternoon walk around the site – ending up on the beach (2 miles of sand) and a quiz in our teams.  Another two hour session in the pool, a quick rush to get dinner and it is nearly time for bed again.

The pattern had been set for the week.  Afternoon activities included beach rounders, building towers, making sand sculptures, orienteering and code breaking and a whole afternoon of free time on the beach.

On the last night we had a “party” with a slide show of many of the pictures people had taken during the week – some caused quite a laugh – and an award ceremony; 41 awards.

And too soon it was time to come home.  Time for one last competition before getting the coach back to Venice airport and flying (on time) to Heathrow.  All was going well until the M1 had a problem and we had to go the scenic route along with a lot of other people, so our home coming was delayed.  At 7.20 p.m. 35 swimmers were reunited with their parents and 8 adults breathed a sigh of relief and went home to count swimmers wearing blue in their sleep!  Just one swimmer got to training on Thursday night!

On the coach from Heathrow to Redwell the swimmers were asked to note what they liked best about the trip and what they liked least – here are some of their comments:

BEST:  Swimming in a 50m pool.  Being in Italy.   Making the sculptures.  Playing on the beach and in the sea.  Writing our last set.  Just about EVERYTHING.  The last training session.  The team games were so much fun.  The last night was amazing.  All the laughs!  THANK YOU SO MUCH!  The challenges and riddles.  Hanging out at the beach with crew!  It was a great experience for everyone.  The boys.  How planned everything was and the free time on the beach.  The fun and laughs.  The bond everyone grew with each other.  No one was left out.  JEAN!!!  All of it, especially how everyone worked together.  The venue.  I knew it would be good but exceeded all expectations.  Food good, but not varied enough (too much pasta).

NOT SO GOOD:   The food, especially at breakfast.  Sick and tired of pasta.

Bed early.  Getting bitten by mosquitoes.  Travelling in the buses.  Flying - I think we should definitely come again though.  Beds. Long sessions.  4 x 400 IM.  Tired.  Ache.  Waking up early.  The long distances.  Being put in rooms.  Not being allowed in boys rooms (from a girl!).  Homesick - had an amazing time though.  Lack of freedom for older ones and spilling hot chocolate on myself all over my clothes for travelling!  Lack of boys.  Waiting in queues.  The delay at the airport on the way there.

TIMEKEEPERS HELP!

The league season is upon us again.  Can you please ensure that the first 50m of a relay is timed and written on the time slip.  These times are often PBs for the swimmers but cannot be recorded unless you time them and write the times down.   Many thanks for your help.
