CONGRATULATIONS
Jessica and Jake have been selected to swim at the National County Team Championships 2009 at Ponds Forge Sheffield, Sunday 18th October 2009
CALLING ALL TIMEKEEPERS!
You may not be aware that we were unable to run Dash for the Junior Squad in September because we did not have sufficient time keepers. This squad only use three lanes for Dash partly because we know people find it difficult to get to the pool for 6.00 p.m.
Ian or Sandra will be asking you if you can tell us when you can normally help, so we can contact you when we need help at that time. Thanks for your support.
Anyone who is not a timekeeper but would like to try it, or become a timekeeper is welcome to join us on poolside on Dash nights. Training for timekeeping is at WASC on a Monday night – just give your name to our Secretary, Jean.
OUR CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHIES
All trophies for the November Championships must be returned to the Club Room by the same date as the entries close. Please ensure all trophies are engraved and clean and returned in good time.
Entry forms for our November championships will be available shortly, please return them before the closing date, late entries cannot be accepted.
LOG BOOKS
Nearly all the squads now have log books. These are not intended to take hours to complete, but are to help competitive swimmers keep a record of their times, and give them goals to aim for. Those who train with an aim are far more likely to win than those that just swim up and down. Please give a few minutes to completing your log book.
COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS
The qualifying times for the County Championships in February and March 2010 are now on the notice board in the foyer.
Boys under the age of 14 years and girls under the age of 13 years are awarded trophies based on BAGCATS points. To help you decide what events you should enter there is a guide below. If you have any questions please see your Coach or Sandra.
GUIDE TO - BRITISH AGE GROUP CATEGORIES (BAGCATS)
This brief guide is intended as basic introduction for both swimmers and parents into the world of British Age Group Categories (known as BAGCATS).
BAGCATS applies to Boys aged 9 – 14 yrs (Counties), 10 – 14 yrs (Regional & Nationals).
Girls aged 9 – 13 yrs (Counties), 10 – 13 yrs (Regional & Nationals).
At the Northamptonshire County Championships there are only BAGCAT awards; no trophies are awarded for individual events for boys aged 9 to14 years and girls aged 9 to 13 years.
Ideally, you need to compete in at least one event in each BAGCATS category to achieve your maximum points. There are normally four or five categories that count towards overall BAGCATS points. If you swim in more than one event in a category, then your best points score is the one that will be used.
BAGCATS awards points according to the time you achieve. The faster you swim, the more points you are awarded. Sliding scales are used, depending on your age and sex.
Points from each category are added together to give the overall placings and ranking at the end of a Championship. At Northamtonshire County Championships awards are usually presented to the top 6 boys and girls in each age group.
The Categories are:
Sprint – 50m events - Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Freestyle
100 m events - Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Freestyle
Form events - 200 m events - Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke
Distance events - 200 m to 1500 m Freestyle
Individual Medley events - 100m, 200m, 400m
The 200m Freestyle is always a Distance event, not a Form stroke.
There are no BAGCATS sprint events at Regional or National competitions.
